After
their spring harvest and Farmer's Market, students will
be busy all over again, preparing the garden with organic
soil amendments and planting a large crop to return to
the following autumn. |
Each year at the school's Open House in spring, the winter crop of lettuce, spinach, cabbage, kale, onions, garlic, flowers and herbs are harvested and sold to parents and other visitors. |
Much of the operating
budget for a school garden can be funded by the money
raised during a Farmer's Market. |

All
proceeds from the Farmer's Market are tilled directly
back into the program next year. |
In addition to
the vegetable and flower crops, the Farmer's Market
offers chocolate-dipped strawberries, potted plants, garden
gifts, bread and butter with herbs, and even worms for
sale. |
Each
class makes two stepping stones. One is put in
the garden and the other is sold at our annual Farmer's
Market in spring. |
